MIDL Vision 2022

Inria was a wonderful time. A very good place to do a PhD! I was at Inria in the south of France in Sophia Antipolis. It's a great research center with a lot of professors and researchers from everywhere in the world. It's very international. As a PhD student, I learned a lot. I guess that life in the south of France was particularly pleasant. Yes! How did you go to such a different place now? What I enjoyed the most in Nice was, of course, the beach and the weather. But I really like the mountains. We are very close to the south of the Alps and now in Switzerland, I enjoyed the peak mountains. There is a cost, but I compensate for it with that. Right, Nice is actually only one hour driving away from skiing. Exactly, yes. For our readers, it's called les Alpes Maritimes . I also enjoy them very much. What would you have been if you didn’t go into this field? Oh … What is the Chloé that will never be? Ha! I don't know … Does it mean that you are doing exactly what you want and nothing else is conceivable? [ laughs ] No, I'm thinking about maybe something completely different. I don't know … It’s OK! You are doing the career that you want in every possible aspect. Is everything so perfect? Haha, not everything is so perfect! What might go wrong in the future that could make you say: this is not for me. Is it impossible to happen? No, I think it could happen. I can still learn and apply. For example, there are a lot of things around environmental science. I'm very interested in that. So maybe at some point, I would think, okay, maybe I could have that better impact! Very nice! Can you give our readers one example of the things you are working on? The first thing that comes to mind is the paper that we submitted to MIDL that got accepted. We just started listening to some clinical collaborators complaining at how time consuming it is to plan a thermal ablation procedure. Then at that time, I was working with a student, and we were reading deep reinforcement learning papers. We thought maybe we can just try this and see if we would make it faster.
