MIDL Vision 2022
10 Editorial Good morning MIDL 2022! MIDL and RSIP Vision (the publisher of Computer Vision News ) have partnered to bring MIDL Vision to the community for the third year running, showcasing some of the fantastic work being presented this week. We’ve seen much innovation already, and there is plenty more to come! For the first time since 2019, MIDL is back in person, and we’re very excited to see so many of you in Zürich this week – in some cases, for your first-ever in-person conference! It’s a hybrid event, with many of you also joining remotely. General Chairs Ender Konukoglu and Bjoern Menze have put a great deal of effort into making this happen, and we’re delighted to host an international audience in this way. In the past few years, we’ve seen many new technological developments in medical imaging and considerable advancements in AI and deep learning. At the same time, I (Qi) have witnessed the growth of this conference, and it has witnessed the growth of the research community. Over the years, accepted papers have transitioned from largely novel neural network designs, optimizations, and applications, to work on translating AI and deep learning into medical imaging. In the future, we’d like to see this applied in medical practice so that patients can feel the benefits of all this progress. This year, as in previous years, we have long and short paper tracks and single-track oral and poster sessions. We hosted successful tutorials on two current hot topics earlier this week: Causality and Graph Neural Networks . A big thank you to the organizers and everyone who took part! We have extraordinary keynote speakers this year. Yesterday saw a fascinating talk on AI for Healthcare by Dorin Comaniciu from Siemens Healthineers. Today, we have Julia Schnabel on fetal imaging with deep learning, and tomorrow, Klaas P. Prüssmann on gearing up MRI for the learning age. Young researchers will learn a lot from their rich experiences. If you can, do take the chance for an in-person discussion afterward. VISION MIDL
