also contribute to a concrete field and be the very start of the chain to finally help the doctor. We are early, early in the chain. We will give some tools to a future software company that will develop better, more certified algorithms or certified software that will be sold to hospitals. We are just at the beginning. This is very exciting! Why did you choose the medical field? I was attracted to image processing as an engineering student because it was easy. It’s an image. You have the result right away. The 2D image is very close to the world we live in. I didn’t need anything very abstract as a student. I like to be very much applied. In the medical field, there is always this thought that I didn’t do medical studies, but by doing medical imaging, I can help medical doctors and make my small contribution to health and humankind. Are there any solutions of yours used by medicine? No, not directly because I’m not linked to any company, and I didn’t apply for any patent. I did have opportunities sometimes, but until now I didn’t work with people skilled in patents, valorization, etc. Some researchers like to do it. For me, it’s not the most important thing. The most important are the methods. It’s great that some researchers like to go further and work with companies to develop some prototype or proof of concept. It didn’t happen for me. It’s okay! Don’t you dream that one day doctors will implement something that you have done? It’s interesting, but in the end all researchers in image processing and machine learning are all contributing somehow. We are just increasing the amount of literature and pushing the state-of-the-art a bit further. All of this is contributing to pushing research. We are all participating, but it’s not my own algorithm. Of course, it would be exciting, but I think we are all contributing to this. For me, it’s already a good step. 20 VISION MIDL Women in Computer Vision
