MIDL Vision 2020

5 keynotes from Alan Evans , Nikos Paragios , Elsa Angelini and Daphne Koller . It is a blend from machine learning to medical imaging. Ismail: Another new feature we have introduced this year is reviewer awards. We believe reviewers have one of the most important jobs on the conference and they deserve more recognition. Area chairs have scored the reviewers based on the whole process. Do you have any advice for first-time MIDL attendees? Tal: If it is your first time at MIDL, I think it’s important to note that we are part of the OpenReview process. All the reviews are available so everybody can see the interactions and discussions about each paper. Ismail: Yes, we haven’t mentioned that yet, but for a medical imaging conference, it is new! Tal: It has worked out really well. The review process was rigorous, and there was a lot of buy-in from reviewers. People wrote very long rebuttals and there was a great deal of discussion. It was a huge success! Tal, I know that you are launching a new journal, Machine Learning for Biomedical Imaging, or MELBA for short. Can you tell us about that? Tal: MELBA is a new journal that we are launching in conjunction with MIDL. We are very excited about it. It is open access. It is almost free. It is an arXiv overlay journal so people can have their science out as soon as they want. We are keen that it bridges the gap between machine learning and the biomedical imaging domains, and we hope that it is inclusive and allows people to submit without prohibitive costs. We open for submissions next week from the general public and MIDL 2020 will have a special issue in MELBA. Who are the team working with you, the editor-in-chief? Tal: My team consists of Julia Schnabel , Mert Sabuncu , Sandy Wells , and Marc Niethammer . Our launching editor is Adrian Dalca . Many of them are great friends of Computer Vision News, so that is lovely to hear! We wish you guys much success with MELBA. Finally, we should also tell our readers that there will be a special MIDL feature in the August issue of Computer Vision News b y RSIP Vision which will, amongst other things, showcase the challenge winners and runners up. Tal: Thank you so much, Ralph. We look forward to it! You make a beautiful story out of it every time, so it is always enjoyable to read.
