Clinical days have already proven to be a great success at other conferences, and it is hoped that this will be the first of a new annual meeting for the MICCAI community. Plans are already underway for MICCAI 2022 in Singapore next year and organizers will be watching very closely as proceedings unfold today. “ I hope it will be a success and it will engage the MICCAI community and be pursued in future years, ” Nicolas says. “ The first few years are always challenging for a new event. We are bringing together two very different communities, but it’s an effort well worth pursuing. ” Besides Nicolas, CLINICCAI has been driven by a team of three junior clinicians – Juan Verde , Pietro Mascagni and Alain Garcia – who have done a great job and are very eager to interact with computer scientists. The team have another important event at MICCAI this year – a tutorial on Friday called Multi- dimensional Anatomy for Computer Scientists (MD-Anatomy) on the thoracoabdominal cavity presented by clinicians. It is unique to have a tutorial organized only by clinicians for the traditional attendees of MICCAI. It will feature lots of illustrative videos and also some live recordings from a preclinical platform from IHU Strasbourg. But with so much competition for attention at MICCAI this year, how should a first- or second-time participant who has only even known the virtual platform choose between CLINICCAI and all the other activities that are on offer? “ New attendees should definitely look at a few of the sessions that interest them at CLINICCAI, ” Nicolas advises. “ Obviously MICCAI has so many exciting presentations, so it’s challenging to pick, but use the poster sessions at CLINICCAI and the MD-Anatomy tutorial to really interact with the clinicians and ask them all the questions that you would like to.
