MICCAI 2020 Daily - Wednesday
3 Yenisel Plasencia Calaña 21 I would say the Netherlands. I really like it. Tell us one good thing that you have discovered about the Netherlands. They are very thoughtful with elderly people. This is a country where you don’t find any obstacle for mobility. That is amazing. This is something that sadly does not happen in my country of origin. They still have to fix many streets with holes. They didn’t think, in an urban planning sense, about the best way to put roads and so on. I did a test once when I had to return to Cuba from the Netherlands. I went from my apartment with my bag. I was thinking, let me see if I can make it to the airport with my bags. It was perfectly easy. I didn’t have a problem. I took trains rather than a direct cab to the airport. I didn’t find obstacles with that. Maybe other countries in Europe are similar, but not in Latin American countries. It’s more accessible for people with difficulties. This is something that I truly value in society. I want to ask you about Cuba now. I have two reasons for that. The first is because many of our readers have never been to Cuba. The second reason is that I admire Cuba very much. How could a country survive such a durable economic and financial embargo? The first thing is their people. I love Cubans! Cubans are happy people, very friendly, very helpful. There is solidarity between Cubans. This is a country, with all the American embargo, where we have been able to survive. We are proud of that. However, it would be better if we didn’t have the embargo. [ laughs ] Brave Cuban people. Tell me something that we do not know about Cuba. Higher education in Cuba is really good. It’s hard to show this to the “This is a country, with all the American embargo, where we have been able to survive!” DAILY Wednesday
