MICCAI 2019 Wednesday
MICCAI 2019 DAILY Special Interest Group Guido Gerig is the Chair of Computer Science at New York University; Stanley Durrleman is a researcher at Inria and working at ICM, the Brain & Spine Institute in Paris; and Beatriz Paniagua is a technical leadat Kitware andworks mostly in musculoskeletal medical image analysis application. They speak to us about MICCAI's first Special Interest Group (SIG) – the Special Interest Group in Shape Modeling and Analysis in Medical imaging (ShapeMI) – which is bringing together mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists and clinicians. Collectively, Guido, Stanley and Beatriz have led the effort to create the first SIG at MICCAI this year. Beatriz tells us that the rationale behind it was something she noticed through her work and training in the area. She has moved between shape analysis methodology, application, and software development, and realised there was very little communication between the different parts. She found that perplexing and felt that it would be useful to make some connections and reach out to MICCAI to see if they were interested. Thankfully, they were, and said it was something they had been wanting to do for many years. She then reached out to the rest of the community and 16 Shape Modeling and Analysis - Special Interest Group Guido Gerig (NYU) Beatriz Paniagua (Kitware) Stanley Durrleman (Inria)
