Wiro, do you have a welcome message for conference participants? I would like to welcome everyone. It’s shaping up to be really a great MICCAI. Firstly, I would like to compliment the local organisers and the organising team. They’ve done a splendid job preparing a meeting which is now so much bigger than last year. Even though we had a record meeting last year, we had many more submissions and have more presentations this year. This shows the field is growing. Increasingly, the technologies that we develop here are starting to have an impact. Not only in research but they are being translated into clinical practice and getting picked up by a lot of companies. We see a lot of new companies entering the spirit of MICCAI because they’re interested in the research that’s happening. Overall, I think you’ve made the right choice to come to MICCAI because it’s a vibrant community. I’d also like to tell you to enjoy yourself and to engage. If you go to the sessions, ask questions, and engage with the posters. You will get so much more out of it. There are so many interesting people from so many different backgrounds. One great thing about MICCAI is that next to the scientific programme, there are many very nice activities. That’s not only due to the MICCAI Society or the organisers, but that’s actually because of you, all the MICCAI participants. We have a very active MICCAI Society. We have a MICCAI Student Board, we have Women in MICCAI, and they organise many great events that are both very interesting, but also very enjoyable, so I advise you to make use of all the activities that have been organised. Our new code of conduct this year is about ensuring MICCAI is a safe environment for all. We feel that is very important. We welcome people from different origins, from different cultures, and all of them should feel welcome and safe here.
