MICCAI Daily: Sergio, today at 9:30 you are presenting your work at the Oral Session 1 and after that at poster PS3-21. Can you tell us more about you and about the project? Sergio: I am senior assistant in the Computer Vision Laboratory at ETH in Zurich, working in the Computer- assisted Applications in Medicine (CAiM) Group. MICCAI Daily: What is the work that you are presenting? Sergio: Our work is called Hand-held Sound-speed Imaging: it is a new ultrasound technology, which can be applied for breast cancer screening and differentiation, among other applications. MICCAI Daily: What is new in this work that was not done before? Sergio: We are developing a novel approach of ultrasound tomography, in which we use a hand-held setup based on a conventional ultrasound probe to generate tomographic ultrasound images, which allow us to image parameters that are not available in conventional ultrasound machines such as the speed of sound and acoustic attenuation.
