ISBI Daily - Thursday
thousands of successful students or you find an invention which will have a very strong impact on society, which one will you choose? Hmm… difficult question… [ Laughs ] That’s what I’m here for! Yes! [ Laughs ] I think I will choose thousands of students because I like having relationships with people. I think that alone you will not be able to achieve things that you will be able to achieve in a team or a community. So, trying to teach thousands of people to become better and better, that will help you to also become better and know more things, and things about problems that you haven’t seen before. Do you have a model of a teacher that you would like to imitate? Yes, I think my math teacher that I had in high school: Foteini Papakonstanti. It was a very good paradigm for me because, in that period, it was nice to talk to her, to see that she had family and that she was also teaching at the same time. We had a good relationship between us, we could communicate. It was quite nice. You could tell her anything you want. Yes. She was comforting me. Can you tell me one specific teaching that she gave to you that you would like to tell our readers? Something that is precious for you? I think that what is good with her is that she would be able to not only teach me math, but also when I had problem she helped me overcome it or deal with it. What made her so special? Did she have more understanding of things? Was she closer to you? Actually, it was a private lesson, so we had a one-on-one relationship because it’s much different to do that. But, yes, she knew me and I knew her and it was very nice. 16 Thursday ISBI DAILY Maria Vakalopoulou
