3 Alyssa Pierson 29 DAILY W e d n e s d a y Would you ever consider becoming a pilot? I prefer to be a passenger. [ both laugh ] Well, it seems that you’ve entered into something that you’re reallypassionate about. How will you continue to stay passionate for the rest of your career? What's so exciting, and why I know that I will find a very interesting and long career in robotics, is that robotics isn't narrowly defined as one thing. Instead, it's thinking about all the different ways that technology can help humans. There's always going to be new ways in which we can use this technology to improve our everyday lives. Throughout my career, what I've been most proud of and found most exciting is working on the different things that help out. With my autonomous driving research, hopefully finding ways to improve the safety systems within the vehicles, both for the passengers as well as pedestrians, cyclists, and other cars on the road. More recently over the summer, since the COVID pandemic began and a lot of our research was disrupted, I had the opportunity to switch gears and work on a UVC Disinfecting Robot in collaboration with Ava Robotics and deployed it at the Greater Boston Food Bank. It was one way that we could give back and hopefully help out in this fight against COVID. Those are types of ways that we can bring robots into society that I'm most excited about!
