ECCV 2018 Daily - Tuesday
Daily Tuesday 11 student, trust your student, and to make him feel like he’s already a great researcher on his way. He’s not less than you just because he’s a master’s student or an intern, or whatever. Maybe there is even a third thing. Michael constantly has fun doing this. It’s actually fun. Don’t forget to have fun with your work. How will you make sure you will keep having fun with your work in the future? All I can do is look back and see that I have the ability to put myself in this situation. Sometimes not even deliberately. Somehow you know what your gut tells you. You know where your taste is pulling you. I was lucky or I had the energy to put myself in the position to have fun. You think you’ll do it? Yea, I think so. Was there ever a point where you thought to give up? Absolutely! [ long laughs ] Of course! Why didn’t you? Well, I guess a number of reasons. One is because I am stubborn. I like to complete a project. I like to complete what I started. Whatever it takes! I’m not going to kill anybody! Just hurt them a little? [ both laugh ] No, I will try different ways. Of course, sometimes you have to give up. That’s also okay to cut your losses. I am optimistic. I am stubborn… another word for it is perseverance. What about the future? You want to see a lot of places and discover a lot of new things. You want to always feel free to be yourself. You want to keep having fun. Where does it lead you? What are your dreams to make all of this happen? I think having an academic life allows you to do this because, even though you are in one place, you can do a sabbatical, visit labs for an amount of time, go to conferences… you are in a constantly changing place. Women in Computer Vision 16 “… I am stubborn. I like to complete a project. I like to complete what I started!”
