ECCV 2018 Daily - Tuesday

Daily Tuesday 11 I’m not running away from anything. I really like discovering new things. This is a constant because after that I moved again, and again, and again. What would happen if you went back to a place that you already know? It just means that my home is now divided, one-fourth of my home is Spain, one-fourth of my home is Germany because I also lived in Germany. Another part is on the east coast, another part is on the west coast. These are all places where I feel a little bit at home. Is home something that you can divide? I understand a complex identity, but home is home. Home is a feeling that you get, right? Home is when you arrive, and you feel that you can be yourself. That you have memories here. Home is where you are comfortable? Yea, maybe where you can be yourself. Does that mean you can have one- quarter of yourself in Germany, one- quarter of yourself in Spain, one- quarter of yourself in the United States? Exactly! Really? Is there any place where you cannot be yourself? I’m not sure that has happened very often. Actually, the world is your home! [ laughs ] I guess so! So I hope you invite me from time to time! [ both laugh ] I even lived in the Philippines for two months, and I felt absolutely at home. Did you scuba dive? I was actually teaching robotics. Tell me something about the Philippines that we don’t know. 75% of my students were female. I chose them based on their grades on an exam. It was high school level. What did you like the most there?
