ECCV 2018 Daily - Monday
On behalf of all General co-Chairs, Program Chairs, and our whole team, we welcome you to ECCV 2018, to Munich, and to TU Munich. It’s a great pleasure to have so many people attend. In fact, this is a record-breaking attendance at ECCV. We have more than double the number of participants compared to the last ECCV. This level of success was, I must admit, quite unexpected, and so we apologize to all those who were not able to register because we had to close registration at the number of 3,200 participants. It’s an extraordinary participation, not just in quantity, but also in the quality of papers. We had a very large number of submissions, including many really strong papers. As a result, we wanted to accommodate a large number of these really top publications. Even the acceptance rate this year is slightly higher than it was at the last ECCV. ECCV has grown on all levels. The industrial sponsorship support has grown substantially. We are very thankful for our industrial sponsors for supporting this whole event and for allowing us to offer lower registration fees to our participants. We are very happy for so many great tutorials and workshops that people have been suggesting. We try to accommodate as much of this great work as possible. Probably for hundreds of participants, this will be their first conference. My main recommendation is to use the time that you are here to see a lot of the great research, to talk to people about research because there is so much there in research that you don’t get from a paper that you will get when you actually speak to the people that developed it. This kind of communicating, networking, sparking new ideas and collaborations, is very important. Lastly, I want to not only welcome people to ECCV, but also to the city of Munich. Make also use of your time to explore our city. Munich is a very wonderful, welcoming city that offers many, many opportunities. The weather is perfect to explore the town. So in your spare time, do not forget to check out the town and the environment around us. You will see it’s quite an amazing city. from General co-Chair Daniel Cremers “This kind of communicating, networking, sparking new ideas and collaborations, is very important.” Daily MONDAY 10 A Word of Welcome 5
