ECCV 2016 Daily - Tuesday
ECCV Daily: Did you find it challenging being a woman and entering a scientific profession? Simone: Not during my daily life; most people are supportive. What’s more is that you get a lot of questions from people who are not in the field or people who are not doing computer science. They ask you how it is or if it is scary, but people in the field itself are supportive. We are not that many, that’s true, but during my work it’s not different. ECCV Daily: What is your passion? Simone: My passion is discovering new things and solving open questions. It means thinking differently and exploring new ways of doing things more efficiently. ECCV Daily: When you were a kid, you were passionate about Mathematics. What new passions have you developed since? Simone: Since then, I have become passionate about what you can do using a computer because it increases the space of what you can do. ECCV Daily: Are we still more clever than computers or are they more clever than we are? Simone: I would say that it depends, especially in computer vision. There are tasks which are easy for people, but difficult for Women in Computer Vision 5 ECCV Daily: Tuesday Simone Meyer is a PhD Student at ETH Zurich and a Research Assistant at Disney Research. Her favourite Disney movie is Fantasia, in her opinion the perfect combination of music and animation
