ECCV 2016 Daily - Friday

Ralph : You have conducted so many projects, and you have helped your students in countless other projects. After all of this work, where can you still find new ideas for new projects and new directions? Jitendra: For me, human vision and biological vision are a source of great insight. biological vision are a source of great insight. I always like to think about all of the range of problems that are solved in human vision and biological vision. Until we attain that level of sophistication, which we have not, there always remain problems to be tackled. When we come to solving these problems, we don’t need to imitate biology in detail. It terms of posing problems, thinking about what humans can do has been the main source of insight for me. Ralph: We are pretty much from the same generation. We see and hear young engineers who are quite different from what we were at their age. If there was one feature that these young people of this generation have that you could take for ours, what would it be? Jitendra: I think they have a much greater sense of confidence that these problems can be solved because they are operating at a time when computing power, data, and so forth are much more readily available. They have already seen some successes. That gives them this confidence that many of these problems can be solved, but they tend to think of it in this engineering solution way.
