26 Women in Computer Vision What do you enjoy about your work? Well, with the research at the university, I could not see the relationship with the work and the value that it could bring to society. I liked the research there because of facial recognition through millimeter-wave images or the use of soft biometrics. But it ends there. Since moving to do research in industry, I am in more of a telecommunications bubble where I can see an idea from the beginning to the prototype. That’s very powerful for me! On the other side, you spend more time because prototyping takes a lot of time. I’m happy with my research and what I’m doing with my colleagues because we all come from different backgrounds and perspectives. Many of them have worked a lot in the industry. When I finished my PhD, that was my desire. I also desire to teach in the universities sometime in the future. I don’t know whether that will happen or not because I’m quite happy here. What I know for sure is that I want to work in the industry so that I can teach by my own example, after having experience of what it is to work. That’s something that I did not like from the teaching that I received in the university. Sometimes teachers are lazy, and they do not update their
