15 their studies there as well. Many of our readers have never been at NASA/JPL. We only know it from outside, from what we have seen on television… They go to the moon! They go to space! Tell us something from the inside of NASA. First, I have to say, it is a truly special place. What makes it special are the people and their spirit. I trulymean that, because when they work on something or when they accomplish something, the rest of the team is very excited! They really love what they are doing, and it makes the place very special. And it is very special to me as well. Did you assist at launches yourself? No, I was working there as a graduate assistant, a graduate student. The project I was working on was a research project, and it was not for flight. I really worked hard to have it integrated on the Mars rover project. Are you telling me that the software that you were writing is going to Mars? No, I’m not. [ laughs ] Did you ever see a launch in person? Yes, I did see a launch. I was trying to explainmyownwork, whichwasresearch work. But it was not on Mars... [ laughs ] But when I was working on it, I really wanted to integrate it on the Mars rover, and I did that, but it was kind of funny because I was notallowed to see their code because I was a student... [ laughs ] But, I can write my own interfaces. So basically I did write it that way. [ laughs ] And so actually it was integrated, and it reached the highest level of technology for a research project, which was very nice. It was built by a collaboration.
