Registration Tool Comparison 4 Comparison of registration tools Dear readers, it looks like November brings heavy coats and shorter days, but also a surprise from Computer Vision News. We decided to add something new to our strong set of useful articles, and to propose a comparison between different registration tools. Two months ago, we talked about 3D slicer (article can be found here ) , a medical imaging tool which is ideal to perform landmark registrations. This inspired us to make a review of different tools that offer a registration process for medical data. Sometimes we need to do some specific processing for which one tool can be better suited than the rest of them. The world of software developers and engineers offers a wide range of amazing tools for medical imaging, but each one has something that makes them unique! We want to explore this field and maybe spare quite a lot of precious time that researchers often spend trying to look for the perfect software for their intended use. 3D Slicer: the perfect tool for landmark registration We already analyzed 3D slicer so there is not much more we are going to explore here. In ou r September issue , we have seen specifically how to perform a landmark registration because we believe this is one of the few software tools that allows to dynamically change the landmark points and look at the registration results simultaneously. Of course, this is not the only registration that 3D slicer has to offer. The software indeed has a wide range of automated and interactive tools, including standalone modules for Fiducial Registration, Demon Registration and General Registration, and auxiliary tools such by Marica Muffoletto
