2 Young Scientist Winner 4 Best of MICCAI 2020 “We think with our brain and our emotions are created by the brain. I am very curious about how different characteristics are modelled in there.” In terms of next steps, Lu says this is just the start. The relationship between structure and function is a much wider problem to explore and she would like to model it in other ways with other modalities. Lu is originally from China but moved to the US in 2018 and her English is excellent. Why did she choose Texas for her studies? “My advisor does very good work in the field of brain and human intelligence. He sometimes visited my university in China and would give me very good guidance. I didn’t choose the city; I chose my advisor!” How is she finding living in Texas now? “As a PhD student, I have so much work to do, so I don’t have much time for travel, but Texan people are very helpful. When I first arrived, I didn’t know where anything was, not even my university. When I asked people, they didn’t just tell me where to go, they walked with me for one or two miles to take me there!” We laugh when we realize we both visited each other’s home countries last year – Lu attended ISBI 2019 in Italy , while your editor attended MICCAI 2019 in China . “I also attended MICCAI Shenzhen!” Lu interjects, laughing. When we ask Lu about the Young Scientist award she received at MICCAI last month, she is humble: “Of course, I am happy, but I am also lucky because I read a lot of the papers accepted this year and they were all very good. It has encouraged me. We humans have very limited knowledge about our brain and I really want to know more about it. This is just the first step. I will try my best to do more and better work!” Fig. 1. Illustration of pred Our model can not only generate th individual differences .
