2 Summary Wo en in Computer Vision 38 we were not really taught. In France, we teach kids to be really scientific. This is what people expect. You have to be good at physics, chemistry, and math. Language is now getting much better. But there is nothing about communication with others. I realized, probably too late in my career, that communication is really important. As a scientist, I was always like, “This is a square peg. A square peg doesn’t go into a round hole. That’s not possible!” Now, I tend to see the point of view of others. That’s something I was not really good at. During my career, I had to learn how people think differently than I do. For the last two years, I have been working for a large company. I really learned how to put myself in other people’s shoes and really see from their point of view so that it makes communication much easier. If you could speak to little Severine from fifteen years ago, what would you advise her? Enjoy! Do you, Severine? Yes! So you needed no advice, you did it anyway! Yes, but it took time. I had some periods when I had regrets. But I think it was a lesson that the universe was giving me. I took it, and now I reached a point where I am happy. "I think my choice of doing a PhD was completely different from others."
