3 Summary Rachel pykerman 4 how to interact with their environment. They have to constantly be learning. I always strive for that, to push yourself to learn. Maybe that’s another thing we can learn from robots. That alone justifies switching fields! Exactly! [ both laugh ] Does all of your family live in Canada? Yes, right now they are all in Canada. Why Georgia Tech in Atlanta? I won’t be living in Atlanta, but they have a really good online master’s program, specifically in robotics and perception. It worked really well for me because I can still work, and I can get my master’s within three years. So why not? What is the aspect of computer vision that you like the most? Specifically for vision, I love the aspect of object detection. I really love applying vision in order for a robot to know what it’s doing. I’ve always been really intrigued about object detection, specifically because that really allows the robot to know: “Okay, well, I’m looking at a phone. How can I pick that phone up? I’m looking at this. What can I do with this to get some other task done?” When I was a kid, robots were only found in comics. You grew up in a world that is completely different than the I grew up in. What is it like for someone of your generation to grow up in a world that is so technological? When I grew up, I saw a huge change in technology. I grew up with a walkman, then to CDs, then to everything on your phone. It’s a really interesting time to grow up, especially now for kids. They’re going to see even more technological advances. I hadan interestingperspective seeing how technology back in the 90s to now is totally different. It shows you how fast things are developing. You have to constantly keep up with things. If you could go back to these decades before this technology existed, which decade would you choose?
