2 Summary Wo en in Computer Vision 38 Rachel Spykerman is a robotics engineer working at a stealth startup called Canvas Construction. Rachel, can you tell us about your work ? What I do at Canvas Construction is I work more on the software side of things, basically doing anything that helps the robot sense its environment and interact with its environment. I’ve also been given the opportunity to work in the firmware side of things. So, it’s a really nice overlap between hardware and software. How did you get to that position? My journey into robotics is a little bit unconventional. I started out as an electrical engineer. I studied semiconductor physics and analog design, so something completely different. I worked in that industry for a few years after I graduated but then decided I wasn’t really enjoying it. At that point, I decided to start studying robotics on the side in my spare time.
