Johanna Wald 63 of things. When I have an idea, I can prove it. I can implement it. What is your message to humankind? Believe i n yourself! Do you? I think I do. It was not always like that. How did you get there? With a lot of failures. [ laughs ] I think you have to fail, and get up, and realize that it wasn’t that bad. I grew from it. You know, all my life, I had some moments where I didn’t get what I wanted. I felt like a complete failure, but it brought me to something bigger. So looking back, it was exactly what I was supposed to do. Everyone has their own path. So really believe in yourself. It doesn’t mean that your first submission has to succeed. It doesn't mean that your first year of your PhD has to be super successful. It’s really about following your own path. engineer, maybe applied research scientist. I don’t exactly know what the difference is. I’m not super excited about teaching, I have to admit. I notice the advantages that companies have with their research. With universities, compared to some big companies, it’s a real struggle. That’s why I have this tendency of maybe pursuing industry. Will you miss academia? I will miss it, definitely. I will probably miss a lot, working with my fellow PhD students. I will miss supervising students because it’s great to have people to work with. But I do hope that when I graduate and find a new position, that I will have similar things, that I have people that I can work with. That I have interns potentially in a few years. I don’t know how that exactly works. I do hope that I have similar things in my future job. You dedicate the most fruitful years of your life to pushing the borders of science a little bit further. What would you like to achieve with this effort? Any goal? Any hope? The very first thing I would love to accomplish is to fulfill my own curiosity. What do you think that curiosity will bring to you?
