3 Summary Belén Luque Lopez 29 What was the best part of the program? The best part? Al l of the lectures! Did one of the lectures impress you the most? There were several of them. I don’t remember now exactly. When you go to conferences, when you go to see the papers and presentations, they are usual ly very speci f ic. It is a very big f ield. The lectures are l ike two hours, maybe three. You get an overview of the whole problem and the state-of-the-art. You get to understand stuff that you are not working on, which is very nice. You get an overview of a lot of di fferent tasks. You might get interested in something di fferent than what you are working on. What is the best part of this discipl ine of computer vision, deep learning, and artificial intel l igence? Which part fascinates you the most in this work? I am real ly interested in the most basic appl ications l ike detection and segmentation. They have a real appl ication in the real world. But I am also real ly interested in understanding what the networks are learning. How are they working inside? I don’t l ike to think are one of the few girls? I don’t think that the studying changes. You study when you have to study. It depends on your personal ity i f you get along with guys or girls or both. It depends on everyone’s personal ity. It doesn’t matter. I don’t think it changes, l ike on the exams, for example. When you are in class, maybe your professors pick you for questions because you stand out. I didn’t feel any di fference in the actual studying. A few years back, you have been to the ICVSS school organized by our friend Giovanni Maria Farinel la. Can you tel l us about that experience? Yeah, actual ly, I also went last year so I ’ve been there twice. I real ly l iked it. It was a very nice environment. You get to hang out with people your age who share the same interests. It was kind of l ike going to class because you have di fferent lectures. It ’s just people who real ly know how to give lectures. It ’s very interesting. They know how to keep people’s attention. I real ly enjoyed it. I learned a lot. That ’s why I went back. Are you going again? I ’ l l think about it.
