What about Maryland? DC has beautiful museums. I like it. I like the museums. Nature there’s a lot of nature. I started hiking there. I like to hike because I grew up in the city. Where do you hike? There are a lot of big national parks with trails. Did you hike in Hawaii last year at CVPR? Yea, I did. What’s the best thing in California? The weather! I knew it! Now, do you want to teach or do research? I do want to continue doing research in academia. I think if you become a faculty, you also teach and do research. What’s your main drive? I don’t mind teaching, but I also like advising Ph.D. students. That’s another kind of teaching. Not that I have a lot of experience. Mentoring? Yea, yea, yea Did you ever do this? I’m slowly starting to. I understand that you have had very, very impressive mentors. Can you tell me something special about each one of them? By the way, I also had a very influential mentor during my grad school. Michael Black was also my intern advisor. What was special about each one of them that influenced you? My advisor, David Jacobs, is a really nice person, and he really cares about fundamental things. He’s really interested in the basics. He’s a really good person, a nice person. He cares about everyone. That was a really good example. Now, Michael Black. Michael is like a kid and very excited. The enthusiasm was very contagious. He’s also very right about a lot of things. When you talk about things, he’s mostly right. Now about Trevor Darrel. Trevor is very good at talking to people. I learned a lot from him. He’s good at communicating.
