In terms of next steps, Ke says their focus will be on using the results of this work in many other applications. They are already using the method for another paper looking at training an algorithm for lesion retrieval; for example, finding a pancreas lesion in the database. The method can also be used as a feature to train other computer-aided diagnosis algorithms. Ke presented his work at an oral session at ISBI 2018.
