Every single moment of my life, I had to make good choices because of the opportunities that I had and the many circumstances around me. I was very lucky. Can you tell me the biggest opportunity that you had in your life? In terms of research, when I was doing my PhD, at some point it was time for me to move abroad to do some internship. While I didn’t know where to go, several groups looked very interesting to me. One of those groups was Yoshua Bengio ’ s lab. I decided to send him an email. I didn’t know if he would even answer my email, but he did. I think I was very lucky that he did respond, and accepted to interview me. Things moved forward from that. What is it like to work with Yoshua? For me, it’s been a great experience. You can learn a lot from him definitely. I will use this proverb: “ By standing on the shoulders of the giant, you can see further. ” When you’re working with someone like Yoshua, it helps you to see further and find a better perspective, but it also allows you to be seen, which is also helpful. The main thing I learned during my interview with him is : “ I think the reason I’ve been successful in my career isn’t because I’m smarter than anyone else.
