on the left you can see the text-range “years ago” selected using Select View , and the serial numbers of those hidden states that are activated above the selected activation threshold. At this stage, only an ‘on’ threshold was selected. On the right you can see the Match View of best matching text-ranges returned by the system; we can see that the hidden state pattern search quite consistently returned text-ranges of the phrase “years ago”, supporting the hypothesis that this pattern indeed corresponds to the phrase. The hypothesis can be refined by adding an ‘off’ state as can be seen in the example below. On the left, in Select View the pattern corresponding to “years ago” was selected as ‘on’ and the word “researcher” was selected as ‘off’ -- focusing the hypothesis. We can observe this improves performance in two ways: The pattern can be observed at a lower threshold (0.51, rather than 0.55 before) and many more relevant text-ranges are returned in Match View . Beyond the returned matches, the Match View user interface has an option for viewing the number of matches for a given pattern in the entire dataset, as well as a visual representation of the corresponding parts-of-speech of the selected text-range, as specified in Task 4 . 13 Tool We Tried for You: RNNVis Computer Vision News
