Computer Vision News Event of the Month 31 academic conferences are focused on published or pre-published research, often lack of applied research, and formal dinners. Business conferences related to IT sphere are about cases, success and failure as well as self- promotion. We wanted to make a mixture of both and just gather professionals in a place they usually don't gather to connect, share knowledge and discuss computer vision. Companies in Eastern Europe have a lot in common, fighting for funding, talents and profit. Instead of looking up to the USA and Asia for guidance and money, they could create a hub in this part of the world by sharing knowledge, learning from each other and building up new products. Secondly, this year attendance of the event is completely free, but invitations are granted based on selection. The event is “ by Computer Vision engineers for Computer Vision engineers ” since the organizer of the event is Augmented Pixels, a company creating its own image recognition technologies. Computer Vision News: Why did you choose Odessa as a venue? Daria: Odessa is great place for a conference. Its climate characteristics, location and cultural life make the city very attractive to visitors from everywhere. Also there is a very strong base of computer vision engineers in Ukraine. If 10 years ago there were only a few small startups, today there are dozens since large companies start to invest in them. In this regard, a major contribution comes from the Department of Cybernetics, a part of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute . Computer Vision News: How can you promise such a quality of speakers and participants (the best experts in machine vision)? Daria: We made a thorough research in order to find speakers who have enough expertise and experience to say something interesting and useful to the audience.
