CVPR Daily - Thursday
I have a question about this. By doing this, you are moving to a place that is not under the spotlight. How do you feel about moving to a place where you will be less visible and maybe your impact is not assured? There are so many other places currently under the spotlight, where you know that your work will be perfectly recognized and rewarded. My concern is not directly the acknowledgment of my work. I think that if I open that door, I want to be sure that the people that are following me or that are trying to create the same path have their resources. One of the things that I was doing in the past, for example, was writing grants for the university. Here in North America, we have a lot of resources, something that we don't have in South America. We need to collaborate more with other companies or universities trying to bring more Latin women to this AI field. I have one last question for you. Tell me one actionable thing everyone could do now to improve this community. This is a great question. This is the hardest question! [ laughs ] One of the things I want to see in the future is more developers working in real- use scenarios so we can make a lot of stuff on the computer. I can just download something and run that on the computer or just open up Notebook and try to run the algorithm there … to make something meaningful for their life, something that they have a problem with at home and want to improve … like, I don't know, put water in my plant? So just try to do these kinds of things. This is one of the things that I love to do. But, when you need to face these kinds of problems, you realize how difficult it is to implement an algorithm in a real use-case scenario. As this is part of my day-by-day, I think that the most important thing is to understand that it's not just the software; it's not just the hardware. It's a combination of things. And I will say, always have the motivation to do something new but useful, meaningful for you, for the developer, or also for the community!
