CVPR Daily - Thursday

How does being an evangelist for Intel differ from what you did before? How is it easier and how is it more difficult? Okay, that is a great question! Thank you. I came from far away to ask it. [ both laugh ] The easiest part is that I’m doing the things that I love. I'm doing demos, I'm showing people that things are working. But I think the hardest part is when the developers are frustrated. I try to show them that we can help them create that confidence. This is like a circle. The easiest part is to create demos and create these kinds of demonstrations. When I can see the frustration in developers, I need to come back to the demonstration. This is why I think that this is a circle. The easy part is the demonstration. The hardest part is receiving this bad feedback and trying to create more confidence. I need to come back to the demonstration to show them that it's possible to do and reduce the pain and eliminate the frustration. How is it being a Latina out of the Latina world? You know, this is a great question because I'm a woman, and we don't have a lot of Latina women in AI, unfortunately. Do we need more? Yes, for sure. We need more Latinas in AI. How do we bring them? I think that we need to open the opportunities in Latin countries. The change should be done from the very beginning of education in elementary schools. We have a strong male role in our country, and it’s believed women should have soft skills, and we need to move to another kind of career. This blocks the idea of working with math, engineering, or science. I think that the change should be done in elementary studies. Also, reduce the gap in stereotypes, such as girls should play with dolls, and boys should play with cars. I have an idea for you! Organize a conference in a Latin country so that you will develop AI in that place. That is a great idea! I really want to do this kind of thing. One of my goals for the next two years is to participate more in Latin meetings. For example, maybe next year, I could participate in LatinX here at CVPR. Also, I am super active with women in AI! 28 DAILY CVPR Women in Computer Vision Thursday
