CVPR Daily - Thursday
That was super tricky. I remember going to the field with a mask, making the registration and university forms, and going to the station. Making the competition was a milestone in my life because that opened the door to Intel. We won second place the first time. We participated again. We improved the proposal, and we moved toward robotics. That was a worldwide competition, and we won third place in North America, which included Canada, the United States, and Mexico. After that, my manager connected with me and said, “ Hey, you have a good profile. Are you interested in working at Intel? ” I was working in agriculture and thought, okay, this is a big company. I had no idea. So when I was reading the profile, I thought this is the thing that I'm making every day of my life. The evangelist is closing these gaps with different kinds of good technology. Basically, I was an evangelist in the past, and I didn't realize it. Were you still in North Carolina when this happened? Yes, I'm still there! Intel has an office close to my home, just a 20-minute drive. And we have a worldwide team. So my manager is in the Bay Area, and I am on the east coast. We have people in Asia, Europe, and China. Don't you miss the lab feeling? Yes, totally. Did you see my demos? I have a robot. When you have just the software running on the computer, it's a piece of cake. It's super easy. But when you have more stuff, mechanical things, and you need to connect something, it’s more complicated. I'm missing the lab for sure because I created a big “ We are making connections between developers, the product team, the marketing team, and engineers; and we are trying to be the bridge between the company and the developers!” 26 DAILY CVPR Women in Computer Vision Thursday
