CVPR Daily - Tuesday

6 DAILY CVPR Tuesday Editorial... Good morning CVPR! Welcome to the first edition of CVPR Daily for 2022. CVPR and RSIP Vision (the publisher of Computer Vision News) have partnered again to provide our daily magazine to the community throughout this inspiring event. Follow us today, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday so that you are always up to date with the best of what this premier computer vision conference has to offer. This year, CVPR is back as an in-person conference for the first time since 2019! We could not be more excited about seeing old friends and new ones here in New Orleans. Over 5,500 people have registered to attend in person, more than Hawaii in 2017, and many more will be joining virtually this first hybrid CVPR . We have already seen some fantastic tutorials and workshops, and we have some outstanding keynotes and panel discussions coming up, including one on Embodied Computer Vision hosted by myself (Dimitris) and Kristin Dana . The growth of our community continues unabated. We saw a 15% increase in submissions in 2022, with over 8,100 papers submitted and more than 2,000 accepted. We are also proud to host attendees from 10 African countries. I (Gang) was a Program Chair in 2019 at our last in-person event and have seen some additional challenges this year, with reviewers and area chairs adversely affected by the pandemic. However, we got there in the end, and along the way, Dimitris, Kristin, Stefan Roth , Richa Singh , and I have been able to figure out new and sometimes better ways to run elements of the organization virtually. Some papers and posters will not be presented live this year, but please do not let that put you off. Maybe focus a little more on the in-person interactions and talking to the people there, as that makes for a lively conference! There is always so much to discover behind every paper that could stimulate new research thinking. If you are wondering how to tackle an event of this size, remember that it is impossible to see everything. As a newcomer, do some homework first and check the papers and groups of posters you are interested in. Spending that time in advance to develop your path through the conference will pay off. For old-timers, do not forget to pace yourselves!
