CVPR Daily - Tuesday
Marc Eder, Ganesh Sistu, Senthil Yogamani, and Jonathan Horgan are co-organizers of the Second Omnidirectional Computer Vision in Research and Industry (OmniCV) Workshop at CVPR this year. Marc leads the AI team at a start-up called Yembo, which develops 3D and semantic recognition technology for moving and insurance inspections. Ganesh, Senthil and Jonathan all work at Valeo. Ganesh is a Research Engineer in Computer Vision, working mainly on multi-task deep learning. Senthil is a Computer Vision Architect and has been working on automated driving for the last 13 years. Jonathan is the Deep Learning and Computer Architecture Manager and has been working in the field of computer vision for more than 15 years. In the lead up to their main event on Friday, they speak to us about what we can expect. The OmniCV workshop highlights some of the real-world applications and opportunities for further research and development of wide field of view camera technology. Last year, at the workshop ’ s inaugural edition, presenters focused on algorithmic or software solutions. This year, the focus is on hardware applications for developing these wide field of view cameras and trying to link the hardware solutions to the computer vision algorithms that we are all familiar with, whether that is applying deep learning algorithms to these images, or image stitching itself. There is an impressive line-up of speakers, including friend of our magazine, Zuzana Kukelova . Other speakers include Juejun (JJ) Hu from MIT, who led a project to develop a flat fisheye lens. Also, founder of a start-up called CircleOptics, Zak Niazi , who has developed a stitch-less 360° camera. Similar products on the market like the Ricoh Theta require an image-stitching algorithm on device, but CircleOptics have come up with an architecture that can do scalable 360° video capture via a special camera design. Who are the team hoping to attract to the workshop this year? “ People from niche fields like autonomous driving and augmented 14 DAILY CVPR Tuesday Workshop Marc Eder Jonathan Horgan Senthil Yogamani Ganesh Sistu
