Ghada Zamzmi is currently working as a research fellow computer scientist at the National Institute of Health. Discover more than 100 Women in Computer Vision! Ghada, I understand you are not originally American. That’s true. I’m Middle Eastern. My mother is Farsi. My father is Saudi. So I came from two backgrounds. They ended up getting married, and it’s me now! Do you still have family in Iran? No, unfortunately. Actually, I haven’t visited there in my life. I have the Saudi nationality so I can’t go to Iran. Can you tell us about your work? I started my PhD in 2014. I had no plans to do a PhD at all. During my last year in the Master’s program at the University of South Florida, I took a machine learning course. It was 2013. I was so fascinated by the idea that a machine can learn if we teach it well. I took the course and did very well. At the end, we had a very interesting project. After we submitted that project, the professor of that course told me, “ Why don’t you think about doing a PhD?
