CVPR Daily - Wednesday
paid me to eat food. It’s like if people paid me to eat pizza! [ laughs ] Right? Exactly! Who wouldn’t want that? Have you ever been the only woman in a conference room of men? Yes, that happened very often even in class. I’d be one of the two only females in class. Unfortunately, it happenedmore in my EE classes than my CS classes back in undergrad. Maybe because I was so used to it from early on, I didn’t realize it until someone pointed it out. It’s a really devastating thing to realize when people do point it out. I feel like it is really sad! I’ll tell you what I told Aïcha Bentaieb a few years ago. She said it’s difficult to be the single woman among men. I say it’s the contrary: if I were the only man among a large group of women, I’d say, “This is heaven!” How come this is different? [ laughs ] That’s actually a good point! Maybe sad isn’t the right word. It’s eye opening the first time you realize these things. It makes you want to play a bigger part in your community to make sure it doesn’t happen to younger girls. You want it to be more even for the future generations. Find more than 100 interviews of brilliant female scientists here!
