CVPR Daily - Thursday

DAILY T h u r s d a y Georgia Gkioxari 5 As program co-chair for CVPR 2021 , I (Georgia) am of course looking ahead to next year and taking inspiration from the success of the current chairs and program committee. We don’t yet know if it will be an in-person or virtual event in 2021, so we need to prepare for every eventuality, but have no fear, whatever the circumstances, we will ensure it meets your high expectations! One challenge we have is the scale of submissions . We have seen an exponential increase over the last few years, with a record 6,656 valid submissions this year . It will be important for the program chairs to find a way to tackle that. With a record 1,470 paper presentations accepted too, that is a lot of content to accommodate and present in a virtual program. We will explore the reviewing pipeline and any changes we can make there, such as improving the decisions of the reviewers and area chairs, which is something that Greg Mori described nicely in the How to Write a Good Review? tutorial on Sunday. As well as negotiating the possibility of another virtual conference due to the pandemic, we will be examining all the organizational processes in the lead-up to the main event and how we can better coordinate the key conversations and activities along the way. Events such as our area chair planning meeting , for example, may need to be held remotely next time around. The work to prepare for CVPR will go on throughout the year so that we can ensure the conference in June, virtual or otherwise, will be a success ! We know that for many of you, this has been your first conference , and we hope it has gone as well for you as it has felt for us. A virtual event is not quite the same as being at CVPR in person, meeting people, talking with them, exchanging ideas, exchanging stories, making friends. But we are all one big team, and while we can’t be together for real, we want everyone to have the best possible experience. If you have any suggestions for how we can improve on what we have done, please do let us know. Finally, a big thank you to everyone who has featured in CVPR Daily this year and to all our readers from around the globe for joining us.
